Weekly selection: Tricolor from one of the Loire's best

Kategori

Weekly Selection

Three wines from Romain Guiberteau have landed at Vinmonopolet, and that alone is worth a mention. A white, a red and a rosé, all from one of the Loire's most sought-after names. His bottles tend to vanish within minutes of release, if they make it to the shelves at all.

Guiberteau himself dropped out of law school in the mid-1990s. Together with his father, he converted all the vineyards to organic farming already back then, at the same time as they stopped selling the grapes to the local cooperative. On nine hectares of vineyards, he cultivates only two different grapes, green chenin blanc and red cabernet franc, in the vineyards of Saumur. From the latter he makes both red wine and rosé, both of which clearly demonstrate what one of the Loire's best producers is capable of. The white wine does the same for the chenin blanc grape. All are now available in Vinmonopolet's order selection, and all cost pleasingly little relative to their quality.
