Weekly Selection: A red wine steal at 180 kroneR

Kategori

Weekly Selection

One of Vinmonopolet's absolute best red wine buys, which has cost the same since 2008. Made from the grapes touriga nacional, jaen, alfrocheiro preto and tinta roriz—the latter being the same as tempranillo—this wine is close to the essence of Portuguese red wine production. And all for the tidy sum of 180 kroner.

Alvaro Castro is one of Portugal's finest wine producers, and makes all his wines together with his daughter Maria, who has worked alongside her father since 2000. Together they run the family estate Quinta da Pellada in the Dão region, south of the Douro. Alvaro himself took over in 1980 and developed it into one of the country's very best wine addresses—especially when it comes to price versus quality.
