Meretes selection: This is how a chenin blanc should taste

With an aroma of sea and wax with hints of honey and flint. That's how a dry white wine made from the chenin blanc grape should and must smell. But this grape, which has been predicted to become the heir to chardonnay and riesling in terms of popularity, most often lacks this salty, mineral character that a good example from Vouvray in the Loire wine region can offer.

Since 1823, and for seven generations ever since, the Aubert family has been making wine in the region. Today it is the father Didier and his son Jean-Claude, together with grandson Paul Aubert, who make the wine. They themselves call the chenin blanc grape pineau de la Loire, which is a common nickname in the Loire.

Together they farm a full 47 hectares of vineyards at their archetypal domaine. Now their wines have reached the Norwegian market for the first time. And their bone-dry Vouvray is truly a little find. Not least, the wine delivers tremendous value for its price of 300 kroner.
